Studies of darkness therapy and dim light in workspaces have shown that our minds make different, more imaginative connections in the dark. But, constant consumption of screen light leaves little room for darkness, and part of our visual and mental creative landscape goes unexplored. During our isolation, reflection, and projection into digital spaces, this series asks viewers to take a break from bright light and reengage with their own imaginations.
Each layer of these designs was created in varied levels of light, from full light to pitch darkness— some work drawn solely from its own illumination. I am also inspired by animals, plants, and fungi that phosphoresce. Environments like deep ocean trenches and forest nurse logs are dark, yet glowing with new life.
I see darkness not as the absence of information, but as a gateway to creative thinking. I invite you into this numinous inky garden, and I hope it inspires you to make some time for the quiet and the dark.
